The aim of the Centre is to provide a community Health & Wellbeing Hub, which delivers flexible and community-based services, promoting community cohesion, social integration, healthy living and lifelong learning, helping to reduce Service Users’ isolation and dependency on statutory services.
Dunbeath & District Centre was built & incorporated in 1992 as a company limited by guarantee and registered as a Scottish Charity.
As a small Day Centre, it was established to provide a focal point for the local community. Now in 2024, it operates throughout the South East of Caithness and is governed by 5 Trustees with over 30 volunteers, 2 full-time and 4 part-time staff.
In April 2014 the face of Community Day Care was radically altered in Dunbeath. Gone was the Day Care Centre and in came the Community Health & Wellbeing Hub, tasked with the job of prioritising the Health & Wellbeing of people over 50 years of age.
We are, however, intergenerational within our provided services. Throughout the Covid pandemic we did everything we could to help our community meet the challenges that the pandemic brought and continues to bring.
Our blended service allows us to carefully introduce activities and services alongside our food provision. As we adapt to this new landscape and new normal, we feel we are more resilient and more determined to increase our provision and continue to serve even more people in our community.
